If you just want to change the font color, background color, or simple border style of a cross-tab cell, and if you don't need to determine which actual row or column the cell is in, you may use the Highlighting Expert to conditionally format cross-tab cells. The Highlighting Expert is designed to provide limited conditional formatting capabilities to a report designer who isn't familiar with the Crystal Reports formula language.

1. Open a report containing a cross-tab, or add a new cross-tab to your report.
2. In either the Design or Preview tab, click the cell that you wish to conditionally format. It can be a row/column "intersection" cell, or a row or column total cell.
3. Right-click the cell and choose Highlighting Expert from the pop-up menu. You can also use Format|Highlighting Expert from the pull-down menus, or the appropriate toolbar button. The Highlighting Expert will appear.
4. Choose a desired comparison in the Value Is drop-down list.
5. Type in the value you want to compare the cell to in the text box below the Value Is drop-down list.
6. Choose the font color, background color, and border style you'd like to display if the cell's contents meets the criterion you selected.
7. If you wish to test for an additional criterion (say another bonus level) and display different formatting, click "new item" at the bottom of the Item List. Repeat steps 4 through 6 as needed.
8. Click OK to close the Highlighting Expert. Preview the report to ensure that the cross-tab cells that meet your criteria are appropriately formatted.
